Master's Degree in Concept Art and first Art Direction Role
In June 2024 I completed a Master's Degree in Concept Art through the florentine location of the private academy "Scuola Internazionale di Comics".
During the academic year I had the opportunity to learn how to conceptualise ideas through different mediums and techniques and translate them into fruibile designs to be used in all kinds of media and entertainment productions (such as in the cinema/animation and videogame industries, but also in advertising and magazines). The Concept Designs varied immensely, ranging from characters, vehicles, creatures, props, environments... . Innovative techniques such as 3D sculpting, PhotoBashing and Mock-up creation were used.
One of the things I am most grateful for is having been offered the opportunity to take on the role of Art Director for a professionalising project for an external client that involved all of my classmates. It consisted in the whole pre-production of a videogame. My contribution to the team has been assignments management, the approval of creative decisions, the creation of the final presentation and art brief and more.
I also had the chance to simultaneously attend the first year of a traditional animation course by working as an Italian-English Interpreter for foreign students, learning: history of animation, the 12 Principles of animation, the basics of Harmony, Storyboards and Animatics and so on.
The most important aspect of the year I just concluded is the many connections I've managed to create with artists actively working in the art field who have inspired me and shared their experience.
Overall my experience has been extremely enriching. Everything I learnt has been, and I'm sure will be, very valuable for my present and future growth.
You can see the collection of projects that I curated as part of the course in my INSTAGRAM POST.
